Farena, a three-meal Italian experience, serves as the culinary center of the property. Both its menu and interior design are anchored by two 900 degree wood-fired stone pizza ovens. These impressive, eye catching ovens are also the workhorses of the outlet, producing more than 70% of the menu. Simplicity and authenticity are the tenets of the offerings at Farena in both menu and experience. Guests are greeted by apasta lab as they enter, where chefs make fresh pastas and teach culinary classes. The dining room beyond balances casual comfort with a refined sensibility through a mix of rustic touches, industrial fixtures and rich finishes. Finally, guests can choose to dine on The Veranda, Farena’s expansive outdoor space with its own dedicated bar.

As the hotel’s primary, three-meal concept, Green Olive wanted Farena to be immediately recognizable as an approachable, high-quality Italian experience. The name and resulting identity system places the all-important grains used in both pasta and pizza dough at the forefront through both warm golden hues and as patterned, visual textures. The color choices intentionally step away from the typical, often over used Italian triptych of red, green and white, and instead employ the deep, regal purple of eggplant paired with the gold of grain. This simple, elegant solution reflects the tenants of Italian cuisine - simple, quality ingredients thoughtfully combined or used in contrast to create a sum that is greater than its parts.

With an aggressive timeline in place, Green Olive Media was engaged to help steer and execute this transition. Selected for our extensive hotel, restaurant and bar experience, we brought a keen understanding of both the hospitality industry and the Raleigh market to the table. Our first task was to immerse ourselves in the brand architecture, developing a comprehensive document outlining long-term strategy. In communicating exactly what hotel is and isn’t, we defined its objectives, goals and values while paying close attention to Raleigh’s competitive landscape, equipping ownership and management teams with the tools to articulate the brand direction, purpose and positioning as clearly as possible. Once those parameters were established, we explored a name for the hotel, providing the foundation for a thoughtful backstory capitalizing upon the city’s rich history and legacy. Logo design — supported by a system of designed touchpoints ranging from signage to in-room collateral and sales materials — soon followed, ensuring a visual solution befitting the hotel’s stylishly bold interiors.

In order to create an identity for the perfect poolside oasis that felt distinctly at home under the warm Texas sun, Green Olive looked to patterns and letter forms that have come to be emblematic of the Southwest and the rich cultural heritage that has shaped it. Beginning with a name perfectly created to reflect both theoutlets location and offerings, Tomar El Sol - Spanish for “to drink up the sun” - the brand was then forged invibrant hues selected to represent the key facets of the destination. Warm reds represent the rich, earthy spices of Mexican cuisine. Golds spark thoughts of the sun, juxtaposed with cool blues representing there freshing waters of the pool. The entire system is portrayed with intentionally imperfect, handcrafted technique to reflect the care and craft found in every facet of the outlets food and beverage offerings.

Layered sans serif lettering is reimagined in a manner both iconic and contemporary. Its distinct decoration and three-dimensional qualities are engaging, without feeling over designed or the victim of clichés. The typography is complemented by a geometric, Art Deco-inspired pattern and monoline illustration, whose clean lines contribute a touch of glamour, embellishment and attention to detail befitting The Bar’ssprawling, luxurious space. While restrained, the supporting color palette is warm and dramatic, reinforcing the modern elegance of the system.

Originally opened in 2020 as Origin Raleigh, a Wyndham Hotel, this 126-guest room property boasts its own meeting and event spaces, fitness facility, and full-service restaurant and bar, Good Day Good Night. The standout hotel is conveniently situated at the intersection of the downtown Warehouse and Glenwood South Districts, a short walk from the convention center and the best entertainment Raleigh has to offer. In recent years, the Warehouse District has been reborn as a center for arts and culture, while Glenwood South has become a popular hotspot amongst an exploding population of young professionals. Together, these neighborhoods have become well-known for their diverse mix of art venues and galleries, the city’s best restaurants, breweries and nightlife, a high concentration of co-working spaces and innovative businesses, and a rapidly growing residential base. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift in consumer demands that resulted, hotel ownership saw an opportunity to better distinguish itself through a distinct, local narrative and fresh approach to travel. In joining Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio of boutique hotels, they planned to attract the independent thinker in search of a destination that would illuminate the Raleighite way of life.

PROCESS

PROCESSA ‘railbird’ refers to a horse racing enthusiast seated along the outer rail of the track. The name serves as an homage to Arlington Downs race track that once drew thousands to Arlington as automobiles became popular and Bankhead Highway was established to connect Fort Worth and Dallas, by way of Arlington. The brand’s primary typeface, said to be the earliest commercial showing of sans serif lettering, was first printedin 1816. Its all caps characters are celebrated for their legibility, inspiring countless modern typefaces. Supporting serif and script fonts reinforce the handcrafted sensibility, offering a sense of warmth and whimsy. The visual identity system is characterized by a playfully refined sensibility that presents itself ascasual and relaxed. Its classic timelessness echoes the artisan quality and craftsmanship the outlet is known for.
