A destination restaurant and cocktail bar nestled in Georgia’s biophilic wellness community, Serenbe, Austin’s offers expertly-crafted libations utilizing hard-to-find spirits and locally-sourced botanicals alongside a curated farm-to-table dinner menu in a luxuriously modern setting reminiscent of 1920s cocktail lounges in Paris and London. The establishment celebrates the legacy of Father Austin Ford, a cherished friend of the Nygren family and Serenbe’s founders, known for his diverse passions spanning music, art, literature, gardening, and fine spirits — both liquid and heavenly. It is here that he has inspired a gathering place that fosters conviviality and community, much like he did in his lifetime.

Originally opened in 2020 as Origin Raleigh, a Wyndham Hotel, this 126-guest room property boasts its own meeting and event spaces, fitness facility, and full-service restaurant and bar, Good Day Good Night. The standout hotel is conveniently situated at the intersection of the downtown Warehouse and Glenwood South Districts, a short walk from the convention center and the best entertainment Raleigh has to offer. In recent years, the Warehouse District has been reborn as a center for arts and culture, while Glenwood South has become a popular hotspot amongst an exploding population of young professionals. Together, these neighborhoods have become well-known for their diverse mix of art venues and galleries, the city’s best restaurants, breweries and nightlife, a high concentration of co-working spaces and innovative businesses, and a rapidly growing residential base. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift in consumer demands that resulted, hotel ownership saw an opportunity to better distinguish itself through a distinct, local narrative and fresh approach to travel. In joining Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio of boutique hotels, they planned to attract the independent thinker in search of a destination that would illuminate the Raleighite way of life.

PROCESS

Recognizing the need for a brand that would justly honor the reverend’s larger-than-life personality and contributions, Serenbe engaged Green Olive Media to handle all aspects of the Austin’s visual identity, fromlogo design and signage to menu design and collateral touchpoints including coasters, matchboxes anddrink stirrers. Our team collaborated closely with ownership and Serenbe’s marketing team to capture the essence of Ford’s character and values, while thoughtfully aligning with the community’s deep-rooted philosophy of connecting guests with nature to enhance overall well-being. The resulting solution employs avariety of creative and strategic elements that evoke these unique qualities, making the brand a true reflection of the sentimental forces at play.

With an aggressive timeline in place, Green Olive Media was engaged to help steer and execute this transition. Selected for our extensive hotel, restaurant and bar experience, we brought a keen understanding of both the hospitality industry and the Raleigh market to the table. Our first task was to immerse ourselves in the brand architecture, developing a comprehensive document outlining long-term strategy. In communicating exactly what hotel is and isn’t, we defined its objectives, goals and values while paying close attention to Raleigh’s competitive landscape, equipping ownership and management teams with the tools to articulate the brand direction, purpose and positioning as clearly as possible. Once those parameters were established, we explored a name for the hotel, providing the foundation for a thoughtful backstory capitalizing upon the city’s rich history and legacy. Logo design — supported by a system of designed touchpoints ranging from signage to in-room collateral and sales materials — soon followed, ensuring a visual solution befitting the hotel’s stylishly bold interiors.
