Situated against the backdrop of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, you’ll find Wildwood Still amidst the downtown skyline perched atop the Moxy Asheville Hotel. This rooftop bar promises an experience forserious whiskey enthusiasts, the whiskey curious, and the whiskey-indifferent alike, boasting a curated collection of more than 150 whiskey and bourbon selections alongside craft cocktails, local beer, and aneclectic wine list. Chef Austin Tisdale, a nearly 30-year veteran of the Asheville dining scene, serves as the culinary mastermind behind a menu of Asian-inspired small plates designed for sharing. Layered with adventurous yet familiar flavors of Japanese cuisine, you’ll find unique twists on dishes you know and love, crafted using farm-fresh local ingredients whenever possible. A speakeasy vibe steeped in the warm embrace of southern hospitality makes Wildwood Still the perfect destination to raise a glass.

Originally opened in 2020 as Origin Raleigh, a Wyndham Hotel, this 126-guest room property boasts its own meeting and event spaces, fitness facility, and full-service restaurant and bar, Good Day Good Night. The standout hotel is conveniently situated at the intersection of the downtown Warehouse and Glenwood South Districts, a short walk from the convention center and the best entertainment Raleigh has to offer. In recent years, the Warehouse District has been reborn as a center for arts and culture, while Glenwood South has become a popular hotspot amongst an exploding population of young professionals. Together, these neighborhoods have become well-known for their diverse mix of art venues and galleries, the city’s best restaurants, breweries and nightlife, a high concentration of co-working spaces and innovative businesses, and a rapidly growing residential base. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift in consumer demands that resulted, hotel ownership saw an opportunity to better distinguish itself through a distinct, local narrative and fresh approach to travel. In joining Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio of boutique hotels, they planned to attract the independent thinker in search of a destination that would illuminate the Raleighite way of life.

PROCESS

McKibbon Hospitality, an award-winning development and management company known for their expertisewith top-tier hotel brands, brought the Green Olive team onboard in early stages of conceptual development. Understanding the need for a cohesive brand story, we were first tasked with developing a memorable namesure to capture the essence of the establishment and its North Carolina roots. Upon selecting WildwoodStill, we began work on the visual identity system consisting of logo, typography, color palette, and supporting imagery. These elements were then distilled into detailed brand standard guidelines and applied by our team to an array of extensions including signage, menus, website, and collateral touch points. The artisanal, handcrafted appearance of our design approach communicates the brand’s unwavering dedication to craftsmanship, authenticity and attention to detail. Stylistic cues work together to evoke anappreciation for heritage and tradition through a modern lens focused on southern charm and local character.

With an aggressive timeline in place, Green Olive Media was engaged to help steer and execute this transition. Selected for our extensive hotel, restaurant and bar experience, we brought a keen understanding of both the hospitality industry and the Raleigh market to the table. Our first task was to immerse ourselves in the brand architecture, developing a comprehensive document outlining long-term strategy. In communicating exactly what hotel is and isn’t, we defined its objectives, goals and values while paying close attention to Raleigh’s competitive landscape, equipping ownership and management teams with the tools to articulate the brand direction, purpose and positioning as clearly as possible. Once those parameters were established, we explored a name for the hotel, providing the foundation for a thoughtful backstory capitalizing upon the city’s rich history and legacy. Logo design — supported by a system of designed touchpoints ranging from signage to in-room collateral and sales materials — soon followed, ensuring a visual solution befitting the hotel’s stylishly bold interiors.
